Gaming laptops are constantly improving and becoming more powerful

with each new innovation. Recently, there have been several new

technological advancements or improvements, which may increase your

gaming enjoyment. Some of these new features may come with a price tag,

but they should be at least considered, if you want the ultimate

gaming experience.

While reading this, keep in mind, many gamers still object to using

a laptop for gaming and prefer going with a desktop PC which is

cheaper, somewhat more powerful and can be more easily upgraded

than a laptop. However, despite these issues and poor battery life,

gaming notebooks are winning over more and more buyers, who want a

"relatively" portable machine which can be picked up and carried

from one place to another.

So here are several new developments which may win over a few more converts:

1. Sandy Bridge Processors - These are the second generation of Intel's i3,

i5 and i7 processors which offer much faster performance than their earlier

predecessors. This greater performance is achieved with multi cores,

hyper threading, overclocking and much more robust integrated graphics.

Most high-end gaming laptops will now come with these new chipsets - some

popular ones being the i7-740QM, i7 2820qm and i7 2920XM.

Besides the factory overclocking, these are the first Intel chipsets to

really integrate graphics silicon directly in or onto the processor. Plus,

this is the first chip to be based fully on Intel's cutting-edge

32-nanometer manufacturing process. All this will allow for very

power-efficient processors which have much improved multimedia and

gaming capabilities.

Why are Sandy Bridge processors such a big deal? Well, according to

Anand Shimpi of Anandtech.com:

"For the same money as you would've spent last year, you can expect

anywhere from 10-50% more performance in existing applications and

games from Sandy Bridge."

2. 3D Enhancements - Regardless of your opinion of 3D viewing and 3D

products, this new technology has really hit the gaming laptop marketplace

hard in the last few months. While 3D gaming is nothing new, the Nvidia 3D Kit

has been around for some time, but fully empowered True 3D gaming laptops are new.

These come with 120Hz LCD screens which are capable of handling the 3D images

and most use shutter glasses, although we are seeing several Glasses-Free

3D laptops, such as the Asus Republic of Gamers G53SX and Toshiba F750 3D.

While major laptop makers are pushing this stereoscopic 3D technology, it

still remains to be seen if 3D wins widespread acceptance with the general

public and with gamers. But the option is now available if anyone should want

the full 3D experience. And it should be noted, more and more 3D products

are coming onstream, such as cameras, handheld game systems (Nintendo 3DS)

and tablets. With glasses now being an option rather than a necessity, 3D may

just have crossed over into the mainstream.

3. Bigfoot Killer Wireless - Bigfoot Networks have introduced Killer

Wireless-N Adapters for notebooks which will really push the boundaries

and limits of Wi-Fi for online gaming, High Definition video and high-quality

audio. Smoother gaming is always the goal of every gamer and these new

"Killer" adapters will be a welcomed addition to any gaming laptop.

Alienware, one of the leading names in gaming laptops, is adding these

fast powerful "Bigfoot Killer Wireless-N Adapters" as an option to its

latest gaming notebook computers, such as the popular M18x, M17x, M14x

and M11x. This is important because these "Killer" adapters will offer

much higher wireless speeds with data rates up to 450Mbps(i). This improved

wireless option will cost you around $80.

These are just three new technologies which has greatly improved or increased

the performance levels and specs of gaming laptops. Many of these improvements

come with an additional cost, but depending on your own preferences, these

extra costs could be well worth it. Happy gaming.
